Mine's rare

My daughter asked me what unethical cooking was. She must have seen a mass of wrinkles forming on my face as I tried to register what she meant. Was she talking about basting the lamb in the blood of virgins or using the sweat of a dog to steam vegetables? I would never palm off real meat to a vegetarian?!! I had to ponder. Had the Japanese used cloning as a way to kick start the whaling waters?

This was a school project and the bigger picture was about why Britain still buys or imports from countries that are known for using child labour and deforesting the land etc. She was really into it and we discussed it in some length. I can’t wait till they do China and the other countries with serious human rights issues.

This... reminds me of my dream, where the English £5 note had South American children on it, and coffee beans. o.o

It's a great thing to discuss with children. It may be a little gritty in places (like China), but it's important to know and understand.

Ignorance is bliss, but knowing is power. :)

Gawd, they get into deep stuff these days don't they? I thought unethical cooking was having a Big Mac when you were supposed to be home eating what was in the fridge. :P

Keeping the home fires burning

We went from -3 to +4 in the space of two hours. When I looked out the window this morning my car was covered in ice and I spotted neighbours scrapping and de-icing their cars. I was so glad I could sit tight and not have to move till later as now my car looks fine.

The weather has always been a topic for discussion and no more than these days of climate change. Environmentally I try to do my bit as you can only really concentrate of your little corner of the universe and hope that everyone else is doing the same. The weather never use to bother me, I guess it’s an age thing.

For all the moaning I do in winter it’s still good to feel the fresh cold breeze now and again, it makes the warmth that much more welcome. Draw on whatever parallels you may! Good without bad, chaos without harmony, light without dark, life without death.

Let’s throw another log on that fire.

I feel the same way about winter. It is and always has been my favorite season. Up until a few years ago, I never wore a coat, I didnt even own one. I confronted the cold head on. Now, I'm older, and well, the cold gets to me more than it used to. But, I still love it.

I spelled it right too! Did our ancestors immigrate with a grammar error?

Like a hole in the head

A week before Xmas I kept saying to myself that I wish it was all over and we were already in the new year. Well we’re here and tomorrow I’m back at work. As I look around my home I realise I haven’t done a thing except everyday house work etc.

It took lots of huffin’ and puffin’ but I stripped my bed and turned the mattress (it really did knock me out). I’ve laid a new set of bed linen that I got in the sales (yay me) and it fits beautifully, that really is a result for me as my bed mattress is orthopaedic and doesn’t quite fit into the regular ‘double, queen or king size’ measurements .

Anyway, on with the chores!
